Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0
Chapter 642
Removing VxVM 5.0
VxVM 5.0 can be removed from systems only where the root disk is under HP Logical Volume
Manager (LVM) control. If you try to remove VxVM 5.0 software from your system without
completing the following preparatory steps, you will lose data and your system will be in an
unstable state.
Make sure that you take a full backup of the data on your system before removing VxVM 5.0
software.
Before removing the VxVM 5.0 , ensure that the following steps are completed:
• File systems and other applications that use volume devices must be modified to use the
underlying disks or logical volumes.
• Copies of file systems must be removed to free up as much space as possible. If a volume
contains one of more plexes, all plexes except one have been removed. See “Removing
Plexes” on page 42.
• Data from any volume that was created from multiple regions of storage, including striped
or spanned volumes, must be moved to a single disk or to an appropriate LVM logical
volume. See “Moving VxVM Volumes to LVM Volumes” on page 43.
• VxVM 5.0 must be shut down. See “Shutting Down VxVM” on page 44.
Removing Plexes
To remove plexes, complete the following steps:
Step 1. To display a list of all the volumes, enter the following:
# vxprint -Ath
Step 2. To remove a named plex, enter the following:
# vxplex -o rm disk plex
If the remaining plex has more than one sub-disk, enter the following sequence of
commands to consolidate the sub-disks into a single sub-disk:
# vxassist mirror volume layout=config
# vxplex -o rm dis plex_name
