5 Setting Up VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 This chapter discusses how to set up VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0. Setting Up VxFS 5.0 After installing VxFS 5.0, you can create a file system on a Veritas Volume Manager 5.0 volume or on an HP Logical Volume Manager (LVM) volume. For creating LVM volumes refer to appropriate LVM product documentation. If want to create a VxFS file system on a VxVM volume, you must configure VxVM first. See “Setting Up VxVM 5.0” on page 36.
Setting Up VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 NOTE When you use the swinstall command to install the VRTSfsman package, the VxFS 5.0 manpages are installed in the /opt/VRTS/vxfs5.0/man directory, and symbolic links to these manpages are created in the /opt/VRTS/man directory. When VxFS 5.0 is installed, the /opt/VRTS/vxfs5.0/man directory is automatically added to the /etc/MANPATH. Ensure that /opt/VRTS/vxfs5.
Setting Up VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 • Specify the name of the default disk group to be used by the commands if the -g option is not used to specify a disk group. • Choose whether to use enclosure-based naming for disks. This type of naming enables you to associate more meaningful disk-access names with disks in different arrays. NOTE For more information on setting up VxVM disk groups and volumes after installation, refer to section “Configuring Veritas Volume Manager” in the Veritas Volume Manager 5.
Setting Up VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 enclosures as separate physical entities. By configuring redundant copies of your data on separate enclosures, you can safeguard your data against failure of one or more enclosures. Step 3.
Setting Up VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 Setting Up a VEA Server The VEA server is automatically started at system reboot. However, you can also set up the VEA server later by completing the following procedure: Step 1. To check the status of the VEA service, enter the following: # /opt/VRTSob/bin/vxsvcctrl status Step 2.
Setting Up VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.
6 Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 This chapter discusses how to remove the VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 products from your system. Removing HP OnlineJFS 5.0 NOTE You must remove HP OnlineJFS 5.0 before Base-VxFS-50 or you must remove them together. Also, removing OnlineJFS 5.0 does not automatically remove Base-VxFS-50.
Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 Removing VxVM 5.0 VxVM 5.0 can be removed from systems only where the root disk is under HP Logical Volume Manager (LVM) control. If you try to remove VxVM 5.0 software from your system without completing the following preparatory steps, you will lose data and your system will be in an unstable state. Make sure that you take a full backup of the data on your system before removing VxVM 5.0 software. Before removing the VxVM 5.
Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 Removing VxVM 5.0 NOTE The consolidation operation fails if you do not have sufficient space on a single sub-disk. Moving VxVM Volumes to LVM Volumes Before moving VxVM volumes to LVM volumes, ensure that the following steps are completed: Step 1. Backup your data to tape or other media. Step 2. Backup each file system individually, create new file systems on LVM logical volumes, and recover all volumes. Step 3. Move volumes incrementally on to logical volumes.
Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 where vgvol is a newly created LVM volume group and lhome is a new logical volume. f. Replace the entry (if any) for the volume in /etc/fstab file with an entry for the newly created LVM logical volume. g. Mount the logical volume only if the VxVM volume was mounted before. h. Run the following command to remove the volume from Veritas Volume Manager control: # vxedit -rf rm volume_name i.
Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 Removing VxVM 5.0 Removing Full VxVM (B9116CA) NOTE You must remove B9116CA before Base-VxVM or you must remove them together. To remove Full VxVM (B9116CA), enter the following: # swremove B9116CA The following output is displayed: ======= 08/10/06 13:21:57 MDT BEGIN swremove SESSION (non-interactive) (jobid=server-id) * Session started for user "root@server". * Beginning Selection * Target connection succeeded for ":/". * Software selections: B9116CA,r=5.
Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 * Target connection succeeded for ":/". * Software selections: Base-VxVM-50,r=B.05.00,a=HP-UX_B.11.23_IA/PA,v=HP . . * Execution succeeded. NOTE: More information may be found in the agent logfile using the command "swjob -a log @ :/". ======= 08/10/06 13:21:57 MDT END swremove SESSION (non-interactive) (jobid=) NOTE After removing the Veritas products, the system reboots.
Removing VxFS 5.0 and VxVM 5.0 Removing Base-VxFS-50 • To remove the Base-VxFS-50, enter the following: # swremove -x autoreboot=true Base-VxFS-50 The following output is displayed: ======= 08/10/06 13:21:57 MDT BEGIN swremove SESSION (non-interactive) (jobid=) * Session started for user "root@". * Beginning Selection * Target connection succeeded for ":/". * Software selections: Base-VxFS-50,r=B.05.00,a=HP-UX_B.11.23_IA/PA,v=HP . .
