4. Upgrade from HP-UX 11i v2 to HP-UX 11i v3.
After the OS upgrade is complete, Base-VxVM 5.0 for HP-UX 11i v2 is the default VxVM
software available in the system. As a result, after the upgrade procedure, any disk groups
including 5.0 (HP-UX 11i v2) and disk groups with 140 disk group versions are not accessible.
You can access disk groups and volume manager objects only after you install Base-VxVM
5.0 for HP-UX 11i v3.
If required, install patches for SMO 5.0 for HP-UX 11i v3 prior to upgrading the product.
5. Install SMO for HP-UX 11i v3.
Enter the following command to install HP SMO Standard 5.0 for HP-UX 11i v3
# swinstall -x autoreboot=true -s <depot_path> T2789CB
Enter the following command to install HP SMO Premium 5.0 for HP-UX 11i v3
# swinstall -x autoreboot=true -s <depot_path> T2790CB
You can access the disk groups created in VxVM 5.0 for HP-UX 11i v2, after upgrading to SMO
5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3. If the rootable VxVM volumes were converted to LVM, convert them back
to VxVM rootable.
Upgrading from SMO 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v2 to SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i
v3
Before upgrading to SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3, consider the following points:
Disk group version 120 is the default disk group version for VxVM 4.1, and disk group
version 140 is the default disk group version for VxVM 5.0.
All disk group versions supported by VxVM 4.1 (90 and 120) are also supported by VxVM
5.0. Consequently, all the disk groups created using VxVM 4.1 can be imported after
upgrading to VxVM 5.0. However, some new features and tasks are supported only on disk
groups with the current disk group versions. To use the new features, you must upgrade
the disk group versions.
VxVM 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3 supports shared disk groups only on disk group version 140.
VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 does not support shared disk groups.
NOTE: If the AT broker was not configured prior to the upgrade, it will remain as not configured
after the upgrade. The installation logs contain a message stating that vxatd cannot start because
it was not configured. This is expected behavior and can be ignored.
Complete the following steps to upgrade from SMO 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v2 to SMO 5.0 on HP-UX
11i v3:
1. Stop all activities on the VxVM volumes. For example, stop applications such as databases,
that access the volumes, and unmount file systems that exist on the volumes.
2. If you have any external Array Policy Modules (APMs) installed, uninstall the APMs.
The following warning message is displayed during the OS upgrade and also when you
issue an administrative command for HP-UX kernel modules after the upgrade until SMO
5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3 is installed:
WARNING: The file '/usr/conf/mod/dmpXXX.1' does not contain valid
kernel code. It will be ignored.
You can ignore this message.
