7 Upgrading to Storage Management for Oracle 5.0 on
HP-UX 11i v3
This chapter describes how to upgrade from an earlier version of Storage Management for Oracle
to SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3. This chapter addresses the following topics:
• “ Upgrading from SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v2 to SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3” (page 53)
• “Upgrading from SMO 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v2 to SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3” (page 54)
• “Upgrading from SMO 3.5 on HP-UX 11i v1 to SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3” (page 55)
NOTE: For information on upgrading the Storage Foundation on a cluster, see the Veritas Cluster
Server Installation Guide in addition to the sections in this chapter.
NOTE: While installing SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3, the following error message might be
displayed:
ERROR: Veritas Volume Manager is being upgraded on system hostname,
where it was originally installed with HPUX as Base-VXVM. As part of
the upgrade process, it is expected that the Base-VXVM package would
become empty and swremove(1M) would succeed in removing it. However,
the removal failed. Please examine Base-VXVM using swlist(1M).
If this error message appears, you must remove Base-VxVM. To remove Base-VxVM, enter the
following command after you install SMO:
# swremove –x autoreboot=true Base-VXVM

v3
All disk group versions supported by VxVM 5.0 (such as 90, 120, and 140) on HP-UX 11i v2 are
also supported by VxVM 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3.
NOTE: During the OS upgrade, the following errors are displayed:
ERROR: A later revision (one with a higher revision number) of fileset
"VRTSvxvm.VXVM-KRN,r=4.1.032" has already been installed. ERROR: A later
revision (one with a higher revision number) of fileset
"VRTSvxvm.VXVM-RUN,r=4.1.032" has already been installed.
Ignore these messages and the OS upgrade is completed automatically.
NOTE: If the AT broker is not configured prior to the upgrade, you must configure it after the
upgrade. The installation logs contain a message stating that vxatd cannot start because it is
not configured. This is expected behavior and can be ignored.
Complete the following procedure to upgrade from SMO 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v2 to SMO 5.0 on
HP-UX 11i v3
1. Stop all activities on the VxVM volumes. For example, stop applications such as databases,
that access the volumes, and unmount file systems that exist on the volumes.
2. Convert Rootable VxVM volumes to LVM Rootable.
3. If you have any external Array Policy Modules (APMs) installed, uninstall the APMs.
The following warning message is displayed during the OS upgrade and also when you
issue an administrative command for HP-UX kernel modules after the upgrade until SMO
5.0 on HP-UX 11i v3 is installed:
