2. VxVM 5.0 Support for Dual Naming
In HP-UX 11i v3 release, VxVM 5.0 supports both legacy and persistent DSFs.
VxVM disk groups can be configured using both styles of DSFs. On a system, disk
groups can either use legacy DSFs or persistent DSFs. Supporting a dual mode
configuration allows a disk group that currently uses one DSF naming model to be
extended with the same or another physical volume using a different DSF naming
model.
VxVM commands like vxdisk, vxdmpadm are backward compatible, and work
transparently with both legacy and persistent DSFs.
The support of dual naming would facilitate the user to operate under the following
modes:
a. Default Mode :
In this mode of operation the output-naming model would follow the
input-naming model if the latter can be detected. By default output
would follow the legacy naming model.
b. Legacy Mode :
In this mode of operation the output-naming model would always
follow the legacy naming model irrespective of the input-naming
model.
c. New/Agile Mode :
In this mode of operation the output-naming model would always
follow the agile naming model irrespective of the input-naming
model.
The above features would be managed and administered using the vxddladm
command line interface. In addition to the existing facilities, additional command
line interface options [to set the mode under OS native naming scheme] have been
provided.
