LVM Volume Group Dynamic LUN Expansion (DLE) and Contraction (DLC) (September 2009)
78
• Reconfiguration of physical volume "/dev/disk/disk46" for the requested maximum volume
group size 8388608 MB succeeded.
In change mode for either maximum VG size increase or decrease, vgmodify successfully
reconfigured the physical volume to the requested size.
• The physical volume "/dev/disk/disk46" can be reconfigured to the new maximum volume
group size 3623256 MB without removing free extents from the end of the physical volume.
In either review mode, or for a failed change mode, for a maximum VG size increase,
vgmodify reports the largest value that the maximum VG size can be increased to if no free
extents are removed from the end of the physical volume.
• The physical volume "/dev/disk/disk46" can be reconfigured to the new maximum volume
group size 268435456 MB by removing free extents from the end of the physical volume.
In either review mode, or for a failed change mode, for a maximum VG size increase,
vgmodify reports the largest value that the maximum VG size can be increased to if free
extents are removed from the end of the physical volume.
• The maximum volume group size for "/dev/vg1" has been increased from 512000 MB to
8388608 MB.
In change mode, for maximum VG size increase, when the last physical volume has been
reconfigured, the maximum VG size, as displayed by vgdisplay, is changed to the
requested value.
• vgmodify: Error: Cannot reconfigure physical volume "/dev/disk/disk46" to the requested
maximum volume group size 134217728 MB without moving extent(s). The last 30 extent(s)
have to be made free (see pvmove(1M)) to be able to reconfigure the physical volume.
In review mode, or for a failed change mode, for a maximum VG size increase, vgmodify
reports that the reconfiguration of the physical volume cannot be performed unless in-use
extents at the end of the physical volume are made free by using pvmove to relocate them. If
the physical volume is expanded via DLE and the maximum VG size change is retried, it
might not be necessary for vgmodify to remove free extents.
• The physical volume "/dev/disk/disk48" is already provisioned to the requested maximum vg
size 268435456 MB The disk /dev/rdsk/c2t4d0 was increased by a size less than the size
of one physical extent.
In either review mode or change mode, vgmodify reports that no reconfiguration is needed
for the maximum VG size increase or decrease since the physical volume is already
configured to the requested size.
• vgmodify: Error: Cannot prepare physical volume "/dev/rdisk/disk46" for contraction to the
requested size 204800 MB without moving extent(s). The last 25600 extent(s) have to be
made free (see pvmove(1M)) to be able to prepare the physical volume for contraction.
In review mode, or for a failed c
hange mode, for a DLC operation, vgmodify reports that the
reconfiguration to prepare the physical volume for contraction cannot be performed unless in-
use extents at the end of the physical volume are made free by using pvmove to relocate
them.
