Installation of VxFS and VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment Update Release (September 2009)

1. Introduction
Starting with the September 2009 HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment update
release (OEUR), HP has changed the default installed version of VxFS. Previous HP-
UX 11i v3 OEURs included the 4.1 and 5.0 versions of VxFS and the default install
selection would install VxFS 4.1. Starting with the HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 OEUR,
the default version of VxFS installed is changed from 4.1 to 5.0. However VxFS 4.1 and
5.0 continue to be shipped with all HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 OEURs.
The September 2009 HP-UX 11i v3 OEUR contains the following:
• VxFS 4.1 (Base-VXFS bundle) — required installed in all OEs
• OnlineJFS 4.1 (B3929EA bundle) — recommended (default) installed in
DCOE, VSEOE and HAOE
• VxFS 5.0 (Base-VxFS-50 bundle) — installed by default in all OEs
• OnlineJFS 5.0 (B3929FB bundle) — recommended (default) installed in
DCOE, VSEOE and HAOE
• VxVM 5.0 (Base-VxVM-50 bundle) — optional in all OEs
IMPORTANT NOTES:
 VxVM 4.1 is not included in the September 2009 11i v3 OEUR or AR media.
It has been replaced by VxVM 5.0.
 In September 2009 OEUR, VxVM is not installed by default as it was in past
OEURs. Explicit selection of VxVM 5.0 in the Ignite-UX tool is required to
install VxVM.
 Both VxFS 4.1 and VxFS 5.0 would be installed on the system but VxFS 5.0
would be the active VxFS version. Removing VxFS 5.0 from such a system
will make VxFS 4.1 active automatically. But removing VxFS 5.0 would
render all file systems created using VxFS 5.0 inaccessible as VxFS 4.1
cannot recognize file systems with Disk Layout Version 7 or higher.
If you decide to continue with VxFS/VxVM 4.1 instead of VxFS/VxVM 5.0, this
paper provides the instructions to install VxFS/VxVM 4.1 when cold installing (or
updating) from the September 2009 11i v3 OEUR and later.
