Installation of VxFS and VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2008 Operating Environment Update Release

1. Introduction
Starting with the September 2008 HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment update
release (OEUR), HP has changed the default install behavior of VxVM. Previous
HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment update releases included the 4.1 version of
VxFS and VxVM. The September 2008 HP-UX 11i v3 OEUR contains the
following:
• VxFS 4.1 (Base-VXFS bundle) — required installed in all OEs
• OnlineJFS 4.1 (B3929EA bundle) — recommended (default) installed in
DCOE, VSEOE and HAOE
• VxFS 5.0 (Base-VxFS-50 bundle) — optional in all OEs
• OnlineJFS 5.0 (B3929FB bundle) — optional in DCOE, VSEOE and
HAOE
• VxVM 5.0 (Base-VxVM-50 bundle) — optional in all OEs
IMPORTANT NOTES:
v VxVM 4.1 is not included in the September 2008 11i v3 OEUR or AR media.
It has been replaced by VxVM 5.0.
v In September 2008 OEUR, VxVM is not installed by default as it was in past
OEURs. Explicit selection of VxVM 5.0 in the Ignite-UX tool is required to
install VxVM.
If you decide to continue with VxVM 4.1 instead of VxVM 5.0, this paper provides
the instructions to install VxVM 4.1 when cold installing (or updating) from the
September 2008 11i v3 OEUR and later.

2. Installation Instructions
To install a VxVM 4.1 based system along with VxFS 4.1, you must complete
