1. Introduction Starting with the September 2008 HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment update release (OEUR), HP has changed the default install behavior of VxVM. Previous HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment update releases included the 4.1 version of VxFS and VxVM. The September 2008 HP-UX 11i v3 OEUR contains the following: • • • • • VxFS 4.1 (Base-VXFS bundle) — required installed in all OEs OnlineJFS 4.1 (B3929EA bundle) — recommended (default) installed in DCOE, VSEOE and HAOE VxFS 5.

Setting up a System with Base-VXVM 4.1 This section provides the steps to be followed if you want a system with VxVM 4.1 while installing (or updating) from the September 2008 11i v3 OEUR and later. You can obtain the Base-VXVM 4.
ERROR: The system has VxVM configured, but the VERITAS Volume Manager software was not selected for loading. You are required to load it in order for the installation to succeed. Use the software selection screen to mark the appropriate VxVM software for loading. • To update HP-UX 11i v2 systems and to remain at VxVM 4.1 in HPUX 11i v3, use the following command: update-ux –s Base-VXVM 3. For depots located on the same server use: # /opt/ignite/bin/make_config \ -s <1131_OE_depot> \ -c _cfg c. Test the configuration file. # /opt/ignite/bin/instl_adm –T –f _cfg 3. Create a depot containing VxVM 4.1 from an older OE depot. Please note that VxVM 4.1 is not included in September 2008 HP-UX 11i v3 OEUR. You will have to manually copy it from an older OE or any depot containing VxVM 4.1 bundle. # swcopy –s :<1131_Vx*4.
