Cold Installation of VxFS 5.0.1 and VxVM 5.0.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment Update Release

a. # cd /var/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.31
b. # /opt/ignite/bin/make_config \
- s <1131_Vx*5.0.1_depot> -c <VX_config_filename>_cfg
c. Test the configuration file:
# /opt/ignite/bin/instl_adm –T –f <VX_config_filename>_cfg
4. Combine both the configuration files into a single Ignite-UX INDEX configuration clause:
a. # vi /var/opt/ignite/INDEX
b. Append a new configuration clause, such as:
cfg ―HP-UX B.11.31_Mar2009_OE-Vx501‖ {
description ―B.11.31_Mar2009_OE-Vx501 – 2 depots‖
―/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.31/config‖
―/var/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.31/<0E_config_filename>_cfg"

c. Test all the configuration files in the INDEX file:
# /opt/ignite/bin/instl_adm –T
5. If you plan to LAN boot the client, add its boot entry in the appropriate file on the server.
a. For an Intel® Itanium®-based client, complete the following steps:
i. Open the /etc/bootptab file
# vi /etc/bootptab
ii. Upate the System-IPF entry with client_hostname and other relevant values.
b. For a PA-RISC client:
i. Open the /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab
# vi /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab
ii. Append an entry for the client using the following format:
<client_IP_addr>:<client_MAC_addr>::reserve # <client_hostname>
This step is not required if you plan to initiate the cold-install from the Ignite-UX server and the client is up and
running.
Cold-Installing the Client
To cold-install the client, complete the following steps:
1. Boot the client that supports the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system. For a list of supported systems, see the HP-
UX 11i v3 Release Note available at http://www.docs.hp.com.
2. Use Ignite-UX to cold-install the client using the two depots referenced in the Ignite-UX server INDEX
configuration clause created in the previous section.
On the Basic tab Configurations line in the Ignite-UX interface, make your selection, such as ―HP-UX
B.11.31_Mar2009_OE-Vx501‖.
3. Use the Ignite-UX interface to select the volume manager. On the Basic tab File System line, select the
following:
VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) with VxFS
4. Use the Ignite-UX interface to select the VxVM 5.0.1 and VxFS 5.0.1 software. On the Software tab, select
the following:
Base-VxFS-501 Veritas File System Bundle 5.0.1 for HP-UX
