Cold Installation of VxFS 5.0.1 and VxVM 5.0.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment Update Release

Introduction
This document describes the procedure to cold-install or update VxFS 5.0.1/VxVM 5.0.1 on HP-UX 11i v3.
VxFS 5.0.1/VxVM 5.0.1 require the HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment Update Release (OEUR)
or later. It cannot be installed on earlier OEURs.
Starting with the September 2009 HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment Update Release (OEUR),
HP has changed the default install behavior of VxFS. Previous HP-UX 11i v3 Operating
Environment update releases by default installed the 4.1 version of VxFS. The September 2009
HP-UX 11i v3 OEUR installs by default the 5.0 version of VxFS.
The September 2009 HP-UX 11i v3 OEUR contains the following products:
 VxFS 4.1 (Base-VXFS bundle) — Required installed in all OEs
 OnlineJFS 4.1 (B3929EA bundle) — Optional in all OEs
 VxFS 5.0 (Base-VxFS-50 bundle) — Recommended (default installed in all OEs)
 OnlineJFS 5.0 (B3929FB bundle) — Recommended (default installed in DCOE, VSEOE and HAOE)
 VxVM 5.0 (Base-VxVM-50 bundle) — Optional in all OEs
IMPORTANT:
 When you install the September 2009 OEUR, VxFS 5.0 is installed by default and OnlineJFS 4.1 is not
installed by default (as it was in previous OEURs).
 VxVM 5.0 is included in the September 2009 11i v3 OEUR or AR media. Explicit selection of VxVM 5.0 is
required to install VxVM.
 VxFS/VxVM 5.0.1 is not shipped with the September 2009 11i v3 OEUR. It must be ordered separately.
If you decide to install the 5.0.1 version of VxFS and VxVM instead of the 5.0 version (which is installed by default), this
document provides the instructions to install VxFS/VxVM 5.0.1 when cold installing (or updating) from the September
2009 11i v3 OEUR and later.

NOTE: HP does not support mixed versions of VxFS and VxVM.
Setting up a System with VxFS 5.0.1 and VxVM 5.0.1
This section provides the procedure to set up a system with VxFS 5.0.1 and VxVM 5.0.1 while installing (or updating)
from the September 2009 11i v3 OEUR and later. You can obtain the Base-VxFS-501 and Base-VxVM-501 bundles from
the Independent media set.
NOTE: All Disk Group versions supported by VxVM 4.1 and VxVM 5.0 are also supported by VxVM 5.0.1. All Disk
layouts supported by VxFS 4.1 and VxFS 5.0 are also supported by VxFS 5.0.1.
