White paper: HP Lights-Out Advanced / KVM Card for sx2000 Servers

Technologies / Features
The Lights-Out Advanced features of the LOA card offer greater flexibility in remote server
management, increaed ease of use and convenience for server administrators. The integrated
VGA and USB ports offer the same benefits in the datacenter.
The following diagram is a general overview of the design of the HP Lights-Out Advanced /
KVM card.

Requirements
The LOA card can be installed on any sx2000–based Integrity server with updated management
processor firmware providing iLO-2 functionality (see Table 1 (page 5) for minimum firmware
versions) and is accessed through the iLO/MP web interface. The LOA card must be installed in
a PCI-X mode-1 slot. It cannot be used in PCI-X mode 2 slots or in PCIe slots. To determine which
slots are mode-1 compatible, see the documentation for your server product. An LOA card is
required for each hard partition (nPartition) where you want vKVM and vMedia functionality;
LOA functionality is not currently supported on virtual partitions (vPar).
IMPORTANT: If you install multiple LOA cards on one partition, only the first LOA card that
is detected is fully enabled. Subsequent LOA cards will have only USB functionality enabled.
The graphics functionality of the LOA card also takes precedence over the A6869B graphics/USB
PCI card. HP recommends removing the A6869B card if you have both cards installed on a
partition. If both an LOA card and an A6869B card are present on a partition, the A6869B card
has only USB functionality enabled.
NOTE: By default, the LOA card is configured through DHCP. However, you can assign a
static IP using the iLO/MP web interface or the iLO/MP remote serial console.
vKVM
The iLO/MP provides a virtual serial console where system administrators can view the entire
managed server in the standard HP-UX, Linux, OpenVMS, or Windows headless console format.
The vKVM (also known as IRC–integrated remote console) feature of the LOA card enables
