Automount Command Line Options
Table 3-2 lists the automount command-line options for AutoFS.
Table 3-2 Automount Command-Line Options for AutoFS
Option Purpose
automount -f
<master
file>
Specifies a local master file for
initialization. When the -f option is
used and the master file specified is not
found, then automount tries to use the
switch policy for automount in
/etc/nsswitch.conf. If it fails to
access nsswitch.conf file or if the
switch policy for automount does not
exist, then automount defaults to
/etc/auto_master and then to the NIS
auto_master map.
automount -t
<duration>
Specifies the time in seconds for which
the filesystem is idle before AutoFS
unmounts it. The default value is 600
seconds (10 minutes).
NOTE: The -t option cannot be used to
timeout filesystems that are already
mounted. You must stop and restart
AutoFS for the new value to be reflected.
automount -v Verbose mode. Provides notification
about AutoFS mounts, unmounts, and
other non-essential information.
