Migrating X.25 over ACC to X.25 over PSI
7
The X.25/PSI software supports the OLAR of PSI cards that provide the capability for the
addition, replacement of PSI cards while a system is running, eliminating the need of a reboot.
This OLAR feature also improves the Single system High availability (HA).
For more information on the OLAR feature with X.25/PSI, see HP X.25/9000 User’s Guide
available at:
http://docs.hp.com/en/netcom.html#X.25
• X25mibstat utility
The X.25/PSI software provides the support of x25mibstat utility, an application that is used to
display statistics such as VC open duration, number of open SVC’s per X.25 connection for
X.25 subsystems.
For more details about the x25mibstat utility, see HP X.25/9000 User’s guide available at:
http://docs.hp.com/en/netcom.html#X.25
• System Administration Manager (SAM) and SMH (11i v3)
The X.25/PSI software supports the use of SAM and SMH for configuring the X.25 subsystem.
The use of SAM or SMH for X.25 configuration makes the configuration process easy and
simple.
• High Availability (HA) using Hunt Group Facility
The X.25/PSI software supports the High Availability (HA) feature on HP 9000 and Integrity
systems using the HP MC/Service Guard product (B3936AA) and the switches that support
Hunt Group facility, which allows multiple DTEs to share a common X.121 address.
Benefits of X.25/PSI
Following are the benefits of using X.25/PSI instead of X.25/ACC:
• Complete nettl (1m) tracing and logging facility
The X.25/PSI provides support for both level 3 and level 2 tracing and logging facility using
nettl (1m) as compared to X.25/ACC which supports only level 3 tracing and logging using
nettl (1m). It also provides the benefit of using a strace utility for more tracing of X.25 sub
system on HP-UX.
• Easy Configuration
The use of SAM or SMH for configuring the X.25 subsystem makes X.25/PSI configuration
much easier as compared to the configuration of X.25/ACC hardware. Also, the use of only
one configuration file (X.25 configuration file) for configuring X.25/PSI keeps the configuration
process simple.
• Lower hardware cost
