Intended Audience
This document is intended for system and network administrators responsible for configuring
and administering HP-UX Virtual LANs (VLANs). Administrators are expected to have knowledge
of HP-UX and networking concepts, commands and configuration.
This document is not a tutorial.
New and Changed Information in This Edition
This document reflects the following changes to the HP-UX VLAN product on HP-UX 11i Version
3:
Support for HP-UX VLAN over HP-UX Auto Port Aggregation (APA) software. Support
for HP-UX VLANs over APA aggregates and LAN Monitor failover groups combines the
traffic isolation benefits of VLAN technology with the high availability and high bandwidth
capabilities of APA and LAN Monitor technology on HP-UX servers.
Support for the new command-line interface (CLI) network utility, nwmgr. As of this release,
nwmgr serves as a single tool for performing all network interface-related tasks. It supersedes
the lanadmin, lanscan, and linkloop commands, which are deprecated in this release,
and will be obsoleted in a future HP-UX release.
Support for configuration using the HP System Management Homepage (SMH) Network
Interfaces Configuration tool.
HP-UX Release Name and Release Identifier
Each HP-UX 11i release has an associated release name and release identifier. The uname -r
command returns the release identifier. The following table lists the releases available for HP-UX
11i:
