Troubleshooting Overview
Chapter 5 39
Troubleshooting Overview
Troubleshooting LAN problems can be difficult because a variety of hardware and software
components may be involved and because the problem impacting your system may originate
in another part of the network.
The “Troubleshooting Q and A” section in this chapter provide quick fix solutions to common
network problems by providing answers to the most frequently asked troubleshooting
questions. Look through the problems identified to see if your problem fits into any of these
categories. If so, you may be able to quickly identify and recover from the problem without any
further investigation.
If, however, you are unable to identify your problem, proceed to the “100Base-T Checklist” to
have a general view of your system and its possible problems. Then if you are still unable to
identify your problem, proceed to the troubleshooting flowcharts. The troubleshooting
flowcharts provide a logical sequence of steps to follow when troubleshooting HP-UX LAN.
Using the diagnostic flowcharts provided in this chapter, identify whether the problem is with
HP-UX LAN, any of the connectors, or if it is in some other part of the LAN network. Verify
your assumptions and, it if is limited to HP-UX LAN software and hardware, correct the
problem.
