HP Fabric Clustering System HP-UX Administrator's Guide, March 2008

Application Availability
The following are the three families of applications that can use the InfiniBand interface:
Technical Computing Applications that use the HP Message Passing Interface (HP-MPI).
HP MPI is a native implementation of version 2.0 of the Message-Passing Interface Standard.
It has become the industry standard for distributed technical applications and is supported
on most technical computing platforms.
TCP/IP and UDP/IP Applications using the IETF IPoIB draft standard for IP protocol over
InfiniBand transport.

Site Set-up
The maximum cable length is 10m and this limits the distance between switches and HCAs. See
Attach Cable Guides & Cables” (page 45) for cabling details. Cables are available in 1m, 5m,
7m, and 10m lengths to allow for varying distances between switches and HCAs.
The cables are thick, heavy, and have strict bend radius requirements, so plan the installation
with this in mind. Configurations can have many cables, and cable planning is important to a
successful installation. Plan for cable guides and support to limit cables hanging from connectors,
and sharp bends in the cables.
