HP Fabric Clustering System HP-UX Administrator's Guide, March 2008

Next Steps
If you’ve determined that a hardware component is not at fault and you are still having problems,
it is most likely a software configuration or communication issue. Proceed to the appropriate
advanced troubleshooting section for either the HP-UX Host or the HP Fabric Switch.
If you’ve configured your HP Fabric system to use IPoIB, refer to “Monitoring and
Troubleshooting IPoIB” (page 121).
Monitoring and Troubleshooting the HP-UX Host
This section contains monitoring and troubleshooting information for the software configuration
and communication of HCAs within the HP Fabric Clustering System.
HP-UX Host Troubleshooting Procedure
1. Ensure adapters are claimed by the host.
Run ioscan. Description: ioscan displays information about I/O devices on the host,
including the software state of adapters. In the example below, options are applied to the
command to display only HP Fabric adapters.
Syntax example: ioscan -fkC ib
Output example:
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
============================================================================
ib 0 0/4/1/0/0/0 ib_t CLAIMED INTERFACE HP InfiniBand HCA
2. Ensure that each adapter has the latest version of supported firmware. If it does not, you
must update the firmware.
Run itutil. Description: itutil displays details about HP Fabric adapters on the
host, which include the firware version. The firware version number is displayed in the
output line item “IA Firware Version Number.”
Syntax example: itutil
Output example:
========================================================================
Number of Interface Adapters on this node: 1
========================================================================
Interface Adapter Name : ib0
H/W Path : 0/4/1/0/0/0
Transport Type : IT_IB_TRANSPORT
IT API Version Number : 1.0
IA Software Version Number : 1.0
IA Firmware Version Number : 3.1.0
Firmware Type : Performance
IA supported transport service types : IT_RC_SERVICE
NOTE: This is a partial view of the itutil command output pertaining to this step in the
troubleshooting procedure. For more information on the itutil command, see “Using Itutil”
(page 56).
3. Ensure that each adapter port is connected and has an associated network address.
Run itutil. Description: itutil displays details about HP Fabric adapters on the
host, which include the connection status and network address. The connection status is
displayed in the output line item “Spigot Online.” The associated network address is
displayed in the output line item “Primary Network Address.”
