A Foundation for Using FTAM
Reference Model has been adopted by many computer manufacturers.
The OSI Reference Model identifies many different aspects of
intercomputer communication.
The FTAM (pronounced eff'•tam) service was defined by the
International Organization for Standards (ISO ). FTAM conforms to the
OSI reference model.
The FTAM acronym stands for File Transfer, Access, and Management.
You will usually use FTAM as a file transfer service. However, FTAM
also allows you to access (read) and manage (delete) remote files.
The next section introduces you to the HP-UX implementation of FTAM.
