Managing alternate configuration definitions and OS
image changes
HP Integrity Superdome 2 servers support alternate configuration definitions for partitions called
parspecs.” When multiple partition configurations are maintained for various partitions within a
complex or if operating system (OS) re-install or OS image restore from backup is performed the
following rules mentioned need to be followed to maintain compliance with the iCAP Terms and
Conditions:
1. Partition is reconfigured to have smaller number of cores with same OS image: You may need to
run icapmodify -scommand to adjust the intended active cores in the new partition.
2. Partition is reconfigured to have different or same number of cores but with new OS image:
a) Run icapstatuscommand prior to reconfiguration to find the active core counts and the
TiCAP balance in that partition.
b) Run icapmodify -d” command to deactivate the temporarily activated cores in
the partition.
c) Run icapmodify -B 0to remove TiCAP balance assigned to that partition.
d) After reconfiguration and reboot, run “icapmodify -s” and icapmodify -a” to set the
permanent and temporary active cores and run icapmodify -B” to set the TiCAP Balance in
that partition using details obtained from point “a.”
