Instant Capacity (iCAP) Glossary (May 2010)

• GiCAP Sharing Rights Delivered as a Codeword, Sharing Rights enable GiCAP functionality and
are applied to the GiCAP Group Manager. GiCAP Sharing Rights must be purchased for every
iCAP core in a server you wish to bring into a GiCAP Group. Sharing Rights are not required for
Active processor cores.
• iCAP Inventory When a system is ordered with iCAP components, it comes from the factory with
the expected inactive count for each component recorded in non-volatile memory (NVRAM).
After the system has been delivered and installed, the iCAP inventory can be changed by
purchasing either additional iCAP components or usage rights to permanently activate existing
iCAP components.
• HP Audit Database HP maintains a database of the expected inactive counts of components for
all iCAP systems we sell. It is important that our records match what is stored in the iCAP
inventory on the system; otherwise the system is described as “non-compliant”, thereby
preventing future Codewords from being retrieved until the discrepancy is resolved.
• iCAP Admin The iCAP Admin is responsible for resolving discrepancies between the Customer’s
iCAP inventory and the HP Audit Database.
• iCAP Program Model There is no price premium for iCAP. At any given time, the price of the
iCAP Hardware plus the price of the RTU(s) equals the Active Hardware purchase price.
• How to Calculate the Total Price for Processors The price of the iCAP Processor plus the number
of cores on the processor multiplied by the price of the Right to Use for each core on the
processor is equal to the price of the Active processor. When activating a processor core you
must also purchase HP-UX/SW LTUs and support.
- Single core: Price of iCAP processor + Price of 1 RTU = Price of Active processor
- Dual core: Price of iCAP processor + Price of 2 RTUs = Price of Active processor
• How to Calculate the Total Price for Cell Boards The price of the iCAP Cell Board plus the price
of the Right to Use for the Cell Board is equal to the price of the Active Cell Board.
• How to Calculate the Total Price for Memory The price of the iCAP Memory Module plus the
price of the Right to Use for the Memory Module is equal to the price of the Active Memory
Module.
