HP Instant Capacity Version 10.x User Guide (5900-2170, January 2012)
Authorizing TiCAP
To utilize the available temporary capacity to activate cores in the absence of usage rights, you
can use the icapmodify with the -t option along with either the -a or the -s option. When
the -s option is specified, the number of cores entered must be greater than the current active
cores in the partition. The following example illustrates how to utilize the temporary capacity using
the -t option:
# icapmodify -a 1 -t
8 core units are now active
Preauthorizing TiCAP
Core activations can be implicitly preauthorized to use temporary capacity when necessary. You
can use the following command to turn on on temporary capacity preauthorization:
icapmodify -T on
This enables all further activations (using icapmodify -a) to use temporary capacity without
specifying the -t option. This is useful during partition reboots.
To stop the TiCAP preauthorization, use the following command:
icapmodify -T off
NOTE: TiCAP preauthorization can be enabled or disabled only from the Onboard Administrator.
Stopping temporary capacity usage
To decrease the use of temporary capacity or to stop using it entirely, deactivate the appropriate
number of cores.
IMPORTANT: Do not use the icapmodify -t command when deactivating cores.
Temporary capacity is not used when the number of active cores is equal to or less than the number
of cores with usage rights, across the complex. To deactivate one or more cores in a partition on
the operating system, use the following:
icapmodify -d <number>
To deactivate one or more cores in a partition from the Onboard Administrator, use the following:
icapmodify -d <number> -p par_id
Setting the temporary capacity warning period
By setting the warning period to ‘x’ days, you can receive mail notifications if the partition’s
temporary capacity is projected to expire within the next ‘x’ days. Appropriate actions can then
be taken to replenish the temporary capacity balance.
To set the warning period, use the following command:
icapmodify –w <number_of_days>
Sample Output:
# icapmodify -w 10
The Temporary Capacity Warning Period has been successfully set to 10 days.
NOTE:
• By default, the warning period is set to 15 days.
• To receive mail notifications, the Alertmail feature must be enabled and configured correctly
on the Onboard Administrator associated with the HP Integrity Superdome 2 system.
