HP Instant Capacity Version 10.x Release Notes (5900-1580, March 2011)
is always available to all members of the group. Note that in version 8.02 or later, the verbose
option (-v) is enhanced to show more information, most notably the TiCAP balance held by the
Group Manager.
Automatic multi-homing not supported
GiCAP does not support automatic multi-homing (multiple NICs and IPs for a host). A member is
always contacted using the hostname (or list of hostnames) provided when it is added to the group.
A member always communicates with the Group Manager through its hostname. If the Group
Manager is not reachable through that hostname by a given member, the member is unable to
participate in the group.
Considerations when upgrading hardware on a Group Manager
If you upgrade the hardware on a Group Manager system, you must preserve and restore the
UUID and the partition information on the system.
Removal of member from a group after reignite
In some circumstances, attempting to remove a member from a group after reigniting one or more
hosts on the member will fail. A workaround is to update the host list of the member, removing
and re-adding the reignited hosts. The following is an example of updating the host list for a group
member:
icapmanage -u -m member -h host!host
At this point the member can be removed using the icapmanage -r command.
Software Requirements
Every HP-UX and OpenVMS partition in an Instant Capacity system is required to have the Instant
Capacity software installed and the icapd daemon running (on HP-UX systems), or the ICAP_SERVER
process running (on OpenVMS systems). You must maintain the Instant Capacity software until all
program requirements are fulfilled and until the system is no longer considered an Instant Capacity
system. If you are using GiCAP, all systems must be running Instant Capacity version 9.x (or later).
NOTE: For necessary HP-UX updates, install the latest Operating Environments Update Release
(OEUR) or Application Release (AR) update, if possible. This ensures that you install all required
products and versions. Instant Capacity does not work correctly with HP-UX releases prior to
December 2004.
Your Instant Capacity system is ordered and shipped with all of the following required software
and dependent products, except for the vPars software and the GiCAP requirement on the CIM
Server configuration property. If your system’s operating system is reinstalled or installed with
Ignite-UX, ensure that the following software requirements are satisfied.
HP-UX 11i v1 Requirements and Dependent Products
The following software is required for Instant Capacity version 9.x (or later) on HP-UX 11i v1:
• HP-UX 11i v1

media, or download the most recent version from the HP Software Depot at:
http://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot
• The kernel configuration must include the diag2 module.
• WBEM B8465BA bundle (version A.02.05 or higher)
• nParProvider bundle (version B.12.01.06.02 or higher, available from the OE media)
