Overview of the Instant Capacity Release Notes

Welcome to the Instant Capacity Release Notes for versions 8.x. HP’s Instant Capacity software
product provides the ability to instantly increase or decrease processing capacity on specified
HP enterprise servers. With Instant Capacity, you initially purchase an HP enterprise server with
a specified amount of active processing capacity, and a specified amount of inactive processing
capacity (Instant Capacity components).
These release notes will provide you with the most recent information on new features and
changes for versions 8.x of the Instant Capacity software product.
Instant Capacity Product Overview
There are two Instant Capacity products associated with HP’s Utility Pricing Solutions (formerly
On Demand Solutions) program:
• Original Instant Capacity (HP product number: B9073AA): These are all of the Instant
Capacity software versions prior to B.06.00 (for example, B.05.00). In these versions the
Instant Capacity software was licensed and e-mail connectivity was required.
• Codeword Instant Capacity (HP product number: B9073BA on HP-UX and BA484AA on
OpenVMS): This is Instant Capacity software versions 6.x, 7.x, and 8.x. In these versions,
codewords are used to obtain usage rights for Instant Capacity components.
You will find only Instant Capacity versions 8.x (B9073BA on HP-UX and BA484AA on OpenVMS)
information in these release notes. For information relating to the HP Utility Pricing Solutions
products, refer to the following HP web site (under network and systems management):

Most Recent Instant Capacity Version
At the time of publication, Instant Capacity version B.11.11.08.03.00 is the most recent version
for HP-UV 11i v1 systems, B.11.23.08.03.00 is the most recent version for HP-UX 11i v2 systems,
B.11.31.08.03.00 is the most recent version for HP-UX 11i v3 systems, and 8.1 is the most recent
version for OpenVMS version 8.3 systems.
Note that for commonality across all platforms supported by Instant Capacity, generic references
to version numbers are of the form “8.x” in this document. But because the operating system
version is also incorporated in the depot version number on newer releases of HP-UX, specific
references may be more precise; for example B.11.23.08.03.00 for the HP-UX 11i v2 depot.
