HP Instant Capacity Release Notes for Versions 8.x

GiCAP Requirements
Software Requirements
In order to use Global Instant Capacity, all partitions on all servers in the group must be running
Instant Capacity version 8 or later. The Group Manager must be an HP-UX system running
Instant Capacity version 8.01.01 or later. In order to enable the GiCAP Disaster Recovery features,
the Group Manager must be running iCAP version 8.02.01 or later, and all known hosts on
member complexes must be running iCAP version 8.02 or later.
The OpenSSH Secure Shell bundle must be installed on the Group Manager and on all member
systems in order to use Global Instant Capacity. Normally, it is distributed with the Operating
Environment. A newer version may be available from the HP software depot
(http://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot).
The format and file name of the grouping rules file changed with the release of Instant Capacity
version 8.01. Earlier versions of the grouping rules file are invalid. The Instant Capacity installation
does not include a default grouping rules file. Grouping rules must be downloaded from the HP
Utility Pricing Solutions web portal, located at: http://www.hp.com/go/icap/portal.
Codeword Requirements
While GiCAP is part of Instant Capacity and is installed at the same time as iCAP, it is not enabled
during installation. In order to create groups and share resources across groups, you must
purchase GiCAP Sharing Rights, acquire the GiCAP codeword from the HP Utility Pricing
Solutions portal (http://www.hp.com/go/icap/portal), and apply the associated codeword to the
Group Manager system. Application of the Sharing Rights codeword to the Group Manager
system enables the addition of members with Instant Capacity components to groups. In addition,
you must acquire grouping rules from the portal and apply those rules to the Group Manager
system. GiCAP Sharing Rights and grouping rules are described in the Instant Capacity User’s
Guide for versions 8.x.
Upgrade Considerations for GiCAP
The Group Manager and group members can be upgraded in any order, however, the Group
Manager cannot be upgraded until there is at least one contactable host on each member. Starting
with iCAP version 8.02, GiCAP Group Managers store more information about the members of
a group than previous versions of iCAP. This information must be fetched from the various
group members when converting an earlier version of the GiCAP database to the current version.
This information cannot be fetched if all hosts of a GiCAP Group member cannot be contacted.
Therefore, HP recommends updating a GiCAP Group Manager system to iCAP version 8.02 or
later only when every GiCAP group member has at least one host which can be contacted by the
GiCAP Group Manager.
