• The iCAP system manager that is responsible for the iCAP operations and is the primary recipient of
iCAP notifications from the system.
• No codewords are involved in the iCAP system management process for HP Superdome 2 servers.
However, all actions on the iCAP portal—HP Utility Pricing Solutions portal will be similar to the
operations for HP Integrity Mid-range and Superdome servers.
• Compliance with iCAP contract is enforced through iCAP Terms and Conditions.
Setting up HP iCAP
1. Acquire the iCAP system or the components by ordering the appropriate iCAP products from HP
and install them onsite.
2. Send a purchase order for the necessary RTUs to HP to start the activation process.
3. After the order is processed by HP Order Admin, use the appropriate iCAP commands to activate
the required iCAP components. It is recommended that the customer update their iCAP inventory
on the HP Utility Pricing Solutions portal.
No e-mail requirement for HP iCAP
E-mail connectivity to send encrypted usage information to HP is not required or provided for iCAP
systems running version 10.00 or later of the iCAP software.
Immediate activation of HP iCAP components
Five processing days per core of IAC are included with every iCAP core purchased, which amounts to
40 processing days per iCAP blade. As soon as iCAP blades are delivered and installed, the user
can apply the temporary usage rights to their server. The user can give appropriate iCAP commands,
which allows instantaneous activation of iCAP cores before ordering temporary capacity or a
permanent RTU.
While the processing days of IAC are used, temporary capacity in 30 processing-day blocks can be
purchased so that, after the IAC expires, they can be used to enable immediate activation of cores
when required. While these resources are being used, the user can also choose to submit an order for
permanent activation or additional temporary activation to HP.
Testing and evaluating HP iCAP
The IAC provided with each iCAP core can be used for trial purposes. In addition, HP recommends
that you purchase some amount of temporary capacity with every iCAP blade, which can be used to
facilitate software compatibility with core activation and measure application performance boosts
with additional cores.
