setboot(1M) in HP-UX 11i v3

Ignite-UX
The Ignite-UX product operates in the agile view to take advantage of the multi-pathing and failover features.
During a cold install, Ignite-UX lets the user choose the Root Disk by selecting a lunpath hardware path to the
disk. A More Info screen displays the mapping between the lunpath hardware path selected and the
corresponding legacy hardware path for users more familiar with the legacy format. After a lunpath hardware
path has been selected, Ignite-UX passes as input to setboot the persistent DSF name of the disk and not the
lunpath hardware path itself. The setboot command then selects any available path to the disk as boot path
and writes it in stable storage. Therefore after the system boots, the lunpath hardware path displayed by
setboot may be different from the path previously selected by the user in Ignite-UX.
LVM
LVM supports both the legacy and agile views. Since Ignite-UX (and setboot) create the root disk with agile
addressing, the lvlnboot command will display the root disk using its agile form after a cold install. Any other LVM
volume groups created by Ignite-UX will also be created using persistent DSFs.
VxVM
VxVM does not support the agile view for boot devices. VxVM converts any lunpath hardware path to a
legacy hardware path before using it.
