HP-UX Mass Storage Stack - Hardware Path Aliasing

7
# scsimgr save_attr –H fcd0.MSA_36.0x401d00000000000 –a hwp_abs_alias=default
A mass storage object can only have one hardware path alias attribute defined at a time. Therefore,
if hwp_abs_alias is set for an object, the hwp_comp_alias is NULL and vice-versa. The use of the
hwp_abs_alias and hwp_comp_alias attributes must be mutually exclusive.
If the hwp_abs_alias attribute is set for an object and you want to set the hwp_comp_alias for
that object, you must first set the hwp_abs_alias attribute back to the default value. The same is
also true if the hwp_comp_alias attribute is set and you want to set the hwp_abs_alias attribute.
You must first set the hwp_comp_alias attribute back to the default value.

Glossary
Absolute alias
A type of hardware path alias that references the entire hardware path, replacing the entire
hardware path string.
Agile addressing
The ability to address a logical unit with the same device special file (DSF) regardless of the
location of the LUN; the device file for a LUN remains the same even if the LUN is moved from one
Host Bus Adapter (HBA) to another, from one switch or hub port to another, or presented via a
different target port to the host. The LUN device file stays the same even if the N-Port ID of the
target port changes as in the case of Fibre Channel LUNs.
Agile View of the I/O Tree
View of the I/O tree using agile addressing to represent elements of the I/O tree.
Component alias
A type of hardware path alias that references a single component of the hardware path. The alias
replaces only the HBA, target path, lunpath, or LUN component of a hardware path.
