VFS-SHWRSPL-ENH
The VFS-SHWRSPL-ENH bundle contains the product VfsShwrsplEnh (revision B.11.31.01), which
uses new lock interfaces from the SyncShwrspl product to enhance the pathname traversal component
of the HP-UX kernel to reduce vnode spinlock contention on Superdome servers.
Summary of Change
VFS-SHWRSPL-ENH version 1.0 is an optional product bundle. It contains the product
VfsShwrsplEnh (revision B.11.31.01), which uses new lock interfaces from the SyncShwrspl product
(delivered in the KERN-SHWRSPL bundle, revision B.11.31.01) to enhance the pathname traversal
component of the HP-UX kernel to reduce vnode spinlock contention on Superdome servers. It also
exports a few interfaces to other HP-UX products to modify the vnode reference count using the
new locking mechanism.
This enhancement is only supported on configurations (single npar or stand-alone systems) that
have more than 128 processing units, where the workload frequently involves translating a pathname
to vnode such as open, stat, find, and so on.
Dependency
For the pathname component of the kernel to use the new interfaces from the SyncShwrspl product,
you must complete the following:
1. Select the optional VFS-SHWRSPL-ENH bundle when you install an Operating Environment
AND
2. Install the KERN-SHWR bundle that is available on the web:

This product update does not have any impact in the pathname traversal component of the kernel
if any of the above bundles are not installed.
