Software and administration tools needed to create a minimally bootable and
maintainable system. Only the drivers for basic hardware are included in this

category. You might need to install additional drivers to use all hardware
components. Software in this category cannot be deselected.
Software bundles that HP recommends you install because they fulfill software
dependencies, if any exist. You can, however, manually deselect the bundles before
you install or update your system.
Recommended (default-installed)
To install a minimal operating system configuration (base OS) you can deselect
the recommended bundles. Only the minimal core OS will be installed on your
system when you deselect the recommended bundles.
CAUTION: HP recommends that you do not deselect recommended software
bundles or remove them from your system unless you know for certain that the
software contained in these bundles is not required for your operating environment.
Software might have unstated dependencies. Deselecting software might prevent
products with dependencies on the software you deselected from functioning
correctly.
Software bundles that are not installed or updated by default. You must manually
select these bundles before you install or update your system.

HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environments
Overview
Operating Environments (OEs) are tested and integrated application bundles designed to work
with the operating system and provide the functionality needed for your system’s purpose.
The March 2008 release of HP-UX 11i v3 was the last full Operating Environments Update Release
(OEUR) provided for the following original HP-UX 11i Operating Environments (OEs):
Foundation OE
Enterprise OE
Mission Critical OE
Technical Computing OE
Licenses for the original set of OEs are still available, and customers requiring version 2 of HP-UX
11i may purchase the original set of Operating Environments through the end of the planned sales
life of HP-UX 11i v2 in December, 2010.
