HP-UX 11i v3 Installation and Update Guide, September 2007 (Update 1 Release)
Verifying the HP-UX Cold-Install or Update
To verify that HP-UX 11i v3 was installed or updated successfully, use the Software
Distributor commands swlist and swverify, as described in this section. In addition,
you can view the results of your update in the log file /var/opt/swm/swm.log. Refer
to “Step 6: Update” (page 101) for more information.
TIP: For help with these commands, refer to the swlist(1M) and swverify(1M) manpages,
and the Software Distributor Administration Guide, which is available on the Instant
Information DVD or the HP Technical Documentation Web site:
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11iv3.html
Task 1: Listing all Software Installed on Your System
1. List the bundles and products installed on your system:
/usr/sbin/swlist -l bundle -l product > /tmp/software_list
2. Check the list to see that it contains the bundles and products you wish to have
installed on your system.
3. For a cold install, you may want to compare the output of the swlist command
above with the contents of the HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment DVD and
the Application Software DVD. To see the contents of a DVD, issue the following
command:
/usr/sbin/swlist -l bundle -l product -s /dvdrom >
/tmp/dvdcontent
Task 2: Verifying the Installed Software
You can verify that all software was successfully installed on your system by typing
the following command:
/usr/sbin/swverify \*
The message Verification succeeded should be displayed on the console at the
end of the operation. Further messages from the verification process can be found in
the log files: /var/adm/sw/swverify.log and /var/adm/sw/swagent.log.
Backing Up the System
Now that you have a solid system configuration, you need to back it up. This provides
you with a stable configuration that you can use to rebuild the system, if necessary.
For more information, see “Backing Up Your System” (page 62).
