Interface Card OL* Support Guide

The Attention LED helps you locate a slot and can indicate an operational hardware problem at
the slot. Table 3-2 lists the attention LED states.

Location requests take priority over the Attention LED displaying operational problems.
For log file information to diagnose errors, see “The hotplugd Daemon and Log file” (page 62).
You can cancel an operation started with the Attention Button. After pressing the button, a five
second time window opens. If you press the button again during that window, the operation is
cancelled. Hot-removal operations initiated through the Attention Button perform a CRA on the
target and affected slots.
Using the Attention Button
Before you use the Attention Button, run the olrad command to determine the condition of all
the slots. For additional information about the olrad command, see Chapter 4 (page 65). To
view slot information using the pdweb tool, see “Viewing Slot Information” (page 39). Use the
following command to display the status of all OL* capable slots in the system:
#olrad -q
In the output, any shared slots on a system slots have the same bus number.

None of the slots in the example above are shared slots.
Adding a Card Online
You can add a card online if the selected slot is OL* capable. Before beginning, familiarize yourself
with the OL* concepts in Chapter 1 (page 17).
Before you add a card online, ensure that your system meets the following prerequisites:
Drivers for the card are already installed.
There are no drivers currently associated with the slot.
