HP-UX 11i v3 Read Before Installing or Updating, February 2007 (Initial Release)
Possible Panic with Concurrent Closes/Detaches
from Named Streams Pipes
A rare possibility for a system panic exists with a particular
usage of named stream pipes. Note that the default setting after
the initial 11.31 installation disables the streams pipe
functionality. For this problem to occur, you must change the
streampipes system parameter from the default setting.
You can use the kctune -v streampipes command to check
the current state of this system parameter.
The scenario that exposes this problem involves two processes
that are closing or detaching from a named stream pipe at the
same time. This unique sequence can cause one process to trigger
a panic within a small timing window for this interaction. This
unlikely event will result in the associated message: panic:
Fault when executing in kernel mode out of
sth_fattach()
