NOTE: For customers ordering new systems with the Instant Ignition option (also
known as factory integrated), the cold-installation process described here has already
been performed. Skip this chapter and proceed to Chapter 8: “Verifying System Install
or Update” (page 105).
CAUTION: The cold-install process overwrites everything on all disks selected to
participate in the install. Make sure you completed backups in “Backing Up Your
System” (page 58).
Before You Begin
Before you cold-install HP-UX 11i v3, make sure that:
• Your system meets the system requirements to install and operate HP-UX 11i v3.
For more details see Chapter 2: “System Requirements for Cold-Installing and
Updating” (page 21).
• You have completed the preparation tasks required to cold-install your system.
Most importantly, make sure you created an operating system recovery image to
protect your data in the event of a system crash. For more information see
Chapter 4: “Preparing to Cold-Install or Update to HP-UX 11i v3” (page 49).
• You have available networking information and other data that you need to collect
as described in the section, “Before You Begin” (page 65).
Reviewing the Cold-Install Process
Figure 5-1 (page 64) shows the overall process of cold-installing HP-UX 11i v3 from
media. You can also cold-install HP-UX 11i v3 from network depots and from golden
images. For more information on these alternative methods of cold-installing refer to
