How to Configure VLANs on HP-UX
Choose Configuration Method: Use SAM; Edit
vlanconf; Use lanadmin
There are three ways to configure VLANs: the first two methods preserve
configuration changes across reboots; the third applies changes
immediately but does not preserve configuration changes across reboots:
To permanently save your configurations, you can either:
• Use the GUI-based System Administration Manager (SAM). To use
SAM, see Chapter 3, “Configuring VLANs Using SAM,” on page 43,
and then perform the steps for verifying VLANs. Using SAM reduces
risk of errors and saves your data permanently.
If you use SAM, configuration does not require a reboot to take effect.
or
• Edit the /etc/rc.config.d/vlanconf configuration file using an editor
such as “vi.” Changes will not take effect until the next reboot. For
instructions on editing the configuration file for VLANs, see
Chapter 4, “Configuring VLANs by Editing vlanconf File,” on
page 49.
To temporarily configure VLANs on a live system, you can:
• Use the lanadmin command from the HP-UX command line.
CAUTION If you use the lanadmin command to administer VLANs, those changes
are not preserved across reboots. See “Using the lanadmin Command for
Administering VLANs” for details on the lanadmin command.
