2 Configuring and Administering the BIND Name Service
The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) is a distributed network information lookup service.
It allows you to retrieve host names and Internet addresses for any node on the network. It also
provides mail routing capability by supplying a list of hosts that accept mail for other hosts.

Creating and Registering a New Domain
To set up a new domain, follow the steps described in this section. If you already have a domain,
you need only add hosts to the existing domain.
The following steps describe how to create a new domain:
1. To assign Internet addresses to the hosts in your domain, you must ask the appropriate
person or organization for a range of Internet addresses.
If your organization already has a domain on a public network, you must set up a
subdomain.
If your organization does not have a domain on a public network, and you want to set
one up, you can request a domain registration form from Government Systems, Inc., at
