Update to USB Driver Support on HP-UX 11iv2

There is no Dual-Layer support at this time.
Writes must be closed single session. We do not support Multisession capability.
Compatibility with Integrity Virtual Machines
The use of USB as virtual media for HPVM virtual devices will cease to work after these USB
patches are installed on some versions of a VM Host. This limitation is lifted with the release of
patches PHSS_38297 and PHSS_38298 for HPVM A.03.50.
If you install PHKL_39269 on a system which already has HPVM guests configured and a USB
DVD is used as a backing store for a virtual DVD in one or more of those guests, you will very likely
need to modify the mapping from the virtual DVD to the real USB DVD before the guests will start.
You will get a sequence such as:
# hpvmstart -P goldvm5
HPVM guest goldvm5 configuration problems:
Warning 1 on item /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0: '/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0' backing device
does not exist.
These problems may prevent HPVM guest goldvm5 from starting.
hpvmstart: Unable to continue.
You can do an “ioscan” to identify the new path to the DVD and execute an “hpvmmodify
command such as the following to rectify the situation (assuming /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0 is the new
path to the USB DVD):
hpvmmodify –P goldvm5 –m dvd:scsi:0,0,1:disk:/dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
This situation occurs because the new USB driver uses different hardware paths and device special
files than the old driver did.
Updating HP-UX After Installation of these Patches
Updating from HP-UX 11iv2 to a later version of HP-UX 11iv2 if you have not installed USB-00
version D
No unusual USB related messages will be output during the update process. However, when the
update is completed, you will have version C of USB-00 installed on your system and the new USB
functionality delivered by these patches will be disabled. To re-enable the new USB functionality
after the update, you must remove version C of USB-00 using the swremove command and run
swconfig –x reconfigure=true –x autoselect_dependencies=false PHKL_39269”.
Updating from HP-UX 11iv2 to HP-UX 11iv3 prior to the HP-UX Software Release for March 2009 if
you have not installed USB-00 version D
No special actions are required to update to 11iv3.
Please note, however, that after the system is updated to 11iv3, you will no longer have the
enhanced USB functionality described in this memo. To obtain this functionality, you need to install
PHKL_39407 and its co-requisites. Please refer to the white paper for this patch entitled “Update to
USB Driver Support on HP-UX 11iv3.” This may be found under USB-00 in the HP-UX 11iv3
section of the Operating Environments area of http://docs.hp.com..
