Update to USB Driver Support on HPUX 11iv2

Introduction

HP is providing an update to the USB support on HP-UX 11iv2 which contains the following

enhancements:

 USB 2.0 hi-speed (EHCI) capability at runtime

 DVD write capability

 Support for additional hardware

 IRC Support

Please read this entire document for important information on installing and using this new

functionality, some changes in the USB information presented to users, and other patches required

to use USB with other functionality such as Integrity Virtual Machines and Integrated Remote

Console.

The initial patch released with the new driver was PHKL_37814. This has now been superseded by

PHKL_39269. PHKL_37814 should no longer be used.

Supported Mass Storage Hardware HP-UX is an enterprise operating system and is supported on enterprise servers. Accordingly, official support is limited to those USB devices which are of use in such an environment.

Special Installation Instructions for Users of rx8640 and Integrity Superdome If you are installing USB-00 version D or PHKL_39269 on an rx86X40 or Integrity Superdome, the USB drivers may not be built into the kernel unless an A6869/Obsidian or AD307A was present when the system was initially installed.

  There is no Dual-Layer support at this time. Writes must be closed single session. We do not support Multisession capability. Compatibility with Integrity Virtual Machines The use of USB as virtual media for HPVM virtual devices will cease to work after these USB patches are installed on some versions of a VM Host. This limitation is lifted with the release of patches PHSS_38297 and PHSS_38298 for HPVM A.03.50.
