1 Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade This chapter provides an overview of the Systems Inventory Manager (SIM) Web application Version 1.
Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade Navigating this Guide Navigating this Guide This list outlines the installation process and the information provided in this guide. • Chapter 1, “Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade,” on page 7 — Navigating this Guide — Introducing SIM — System Requirements — Go to Chapter 2 • Chapter 2, “Verify Software Dependencies,” on page 11 — Verify Software Dependencies — Go to Chapter 3 or 4 • Chapter 3, “Install SIM 1.5,” on page 15 — Install SIM 1.
Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade System Requirements System Requirements To ensure that the SIM Web application operates successfully on your machine, be sure that you meet all of the system requirements described in this section. Operating System HP-UX 11.00, 11i v1 (B.11.11) or 11i v2 (B.11.23) is required. You can determine the release id of the operating system running on your system with the uname -a command.
Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade The Next Step Networking You must be able to resolve localhost as SIM uses it to grant access to MySQL. To ensure that this is possible, execute: nslookup localhost The response should be 127.0.0.1, which is the standard IP for the localhost. Additionally, these Tomcat ports must be available: 1190 - Http 1.1 Connector 50001- Tomcat shutdown port You can use the telnet command to determine if the port is available.
2 Verify Software Dependencies This chapter describes how to verify software dependencies. In this chapter, you will verify and possibly remove the following software components: • SIM Web application • Tomcat • Java SDK Your progress, in this guide, to install the SIM Web application follows: Chapter 2 • Chapter 1, Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade • Chapter 2, Verify Software Dependencies • Chapter 3, Install SIM 1.5 • Chapter 4, Upgrade from SIM 1.
Verify Software Dependencies Verify Software Dependencies Verify Software Dependencies The following software products need to be verified and possibly removed prior to installing SIM 1.5: • SIM (SysInvMgr) versions earlier than 1.0, see IMPORTANT note for details. • Tomcat • Java SDK IMPORTANT Versions of SIM earlier than 1.0 must be removed prior to installing SIM 1.5. If SIM 1.0 is installed, you do not need to remove it. You can upgrade from SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5.
Verify Software Dependencies The Next Step • If a different version is installed, multiple versions of Java SDK can coexist on the same HP-UX server. The Next Step Now that you have verified software dependencies, you can begin to install or upgrade the SIM Web application. Choose the appropriate path: Chapter 2 • Chapter 3, Install SIM 1.5 • Chapter 4, Upgrade from SIM 1.
Verify Software Dependencies The Next Step 14 Chapter 2
3 Install SIM 1.5 This chapter describes how to install the software components of the SIM Web application using the SIM software depot. The software installation is largely automatic requiring little interaction from you. In this chapter you will: • Install SIM 1.
Install SIM 1.5 Install SIM 1.5 Install SIM 1.5 This section describes the SIM 1.5 installation process. You will be collectively installing Tomcat, Java SDK, MySQL, and DMI, as well as the SIM Web application software in this process. Software Location The software depot referred to in this section is downloaded from the SIM Software Depot at: http://software.hp.com/products/SIM/download.html NOTE If problems occur during this installation, refer to the System Inventory Manager 1.
Install SIM 1.5 Install DMI on Client Servers Install DMI on Client Servers This section describes how to install the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) component on client servers. DMI is used as the inventory data collection and communication mechanism between client servers and SIM. It is highly recommended that you install the latest version of DMI on each client server from which you intend to collect inventory data. The latest versions for each HP-UX version are: — 11.00 - B.11.00.39 — 11i v1 (B.11.
Install SIM 1.5 Enable Client Systems Enable Client Systems This section describes how to enable any client systems executing DMI to interact with the SIM Web application. For a collection of inventory and configuration data, DMI must be managing each server from which data is to be collected. There are no actions to be performed on the server system, modifications are necessary on client servers only. Modify Client Server(s) Modify the dmiMachines file on each client server: 1.
4 Upgrade from SIM 1.0 This chapter describes how to upgrade from SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5 via the use of the SIM software depot. The software installation is largely automatic requiring little interaction from you. In this chapter you will: • Upgrade from SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5 • Log in to SIM Your progress, in this guide, to install the SIM Web application follows: Chapter 4 • Chapter 1, Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade • Chapter 2, Verify Software Dependencies • Chapter 3, Install SIM 1.
Upgrade from SIM 1.0 Upgrade from SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5 Upgrade from SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5 This section describes the SIM 1.0 to SIM 1.5 upgrade process. It includes steps to update the previously installed SIM 1.0 application components. Software Location The software depot referred to in this section is downloaded from the SIM Software Depot at: http://software.hp.com/products/SIM/download.html NOTE If problems occur during this installation, refer to the System Inventory Manager 1.
Upgrade from SIM 1.0 Log in to SIM Log in to SIM After you have installed SIM, log in to verify it installed successfully. Log in To log in to SIM: 1. Launch the SIM Web application from your Web browser with this URL: http://[system_hostname]:1190/simgui The SIM login screen appears in your browser. 2. Enter your user name. 3. Click Begin. The Next Step Now that you have completed the SIM upgrade, the next step is to integrate SIM with Servicecontrol Manager (SCM) 3.0.
Upgrade from SIM 1.
5 Integrate with SCM 3.0 This chapter describes the steps to integrate SIM 1.5 with Servicecontrol Manager (SCM) version 3.0. In this chapter you will: • Integrate SIM 1.5 with SCM 3.0 • Verify SCM 3.0 Integration Your progress, in this guide, to install the SIM Web application follows: Chapter 5 • Chapter 1: Prepare for SIM Installation or Upgrade • Chapter 2: Verify Software Dependencies • Chapter 3: Install SIM 1.5 • Chapter 4: Upgrade from SIM 1.0 • Chapter 5: Integrate with SCM 3.
Integrate with SCM 3.0 Integrate SIM 1.5 with SCM 3.0 Integrate SIM 1.5 with SCM 3.0 This section describes how to integrate SIM 1.5 with SCM 3.0. The SIM 1.5 Web application can be installed on the same system as SCM 3.0 or on a different system. If they are installed on the same system, they can share Tomcat and Java SDK 1.4. Add SIM 1. 5 to SCM 3.0 To add SIM 1.5 to SCM 3.0 when they are installed on the same system: 1. Log in as root or as a trusted user to the SCM central management server. 2.
