Enabling HP-UX Compressed Dump HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23) supports compressed dumps, which significantly speed up memory dump time for HP-UX in the event of a system crash. The initial HP-UX 11i 2 release supports uncompressed dumps by default. To enable (turn on) the compressed dump feature: • Select the compressed dump option within 10 seconds of a system crash. • Turn crashdump compression ON using crashconf(1M).
If you want to turn the compressed dump option ON and have it remain persistent across reboots, you must do the following: 1. Run the following command: crashconf -t -c ON 2. Modify the /etc/rc.config.d/crashconf file. For more information about compressed dumps, see the following: • The crashconf(1M) manpage • HP-UX 11i Version 2 Release Notes • HP-UX 11i Compressed Dump Release Notes Note All of these resources are available on the Web: http://docs.hp.
HP-UX 11i v2 Operating System You can install HP-UX 11i v2 with or without an Operating Environment. However, we strongly recommend installing a complete OE.
Note Installing or removing individual products in an OE may lead to dependency issues. For more help on this, see the HP-UX 11i Version 2 Release Notes. Standard HP-UX Patch Bundles Standard HP-UX bundles supply diagnostics and patches for HP-UX core files, applications, and diagnostic products. These always-installed bundles enable new hardware and fix known defects, and provide diagnostics tools. In some cases, a patch may deliver new software functionality.

Reasons to Install an HP-UX 11i v2 OE • You can easily install or update to the latest versions of popular applications in each OE via a single software bundle installed with a single reboot (a second reboot is needed if system firmware needs upgrading). In other words, there is no need to install or update those applications separately. • All applications included in each OE have been thoroughly install-tested on supported systems, ensuring a successful installation on your system.
Known Problems This section contains critical, late-breaking information that was not included in the HP-UX 11i Version 2 Installation and Update Guide. Before cold-installing or updating to HP-UX 11i v2, be sure to read this entire section and Appendix B in the HP-UX 11i Version 2 Installation and Update Guide. OnlineDiag Bundle Needs to be Loaded The March 2004 OnlineDiag version is A.44.00 (B.11.23.02.xx). If you remove or do not install the OnlineDiag bundle, some products with dependencies on OnlineDiag will not function correctly. To ensure the reliability of your computer system, HP recommends strongly that you load the OnlineDiag bundle: • Each OnlineDiag release provides the latest tools and hardware monitors. • Support Tools give you multiple protection against hardware failures.
with 64-bit indices - PHKL_30155 enables PAL calls with 64-bit indices The HWEnable11i patch bundle MUST be installed on all hp mx2 dual processor module systems; failure to do so will result in system instability. Both patches are kernel patches and will require you to reboot your system. Non-Critical Patch Warning: PHSS_29710 When installing the March 2004 HWEnable11i bundle on a system with an existing 11.23 OE, it is necessary to apply the workaround from the warning text (shown below) for PHSS_29710.
Warn: 04/02/02 - This Non-Critical Warning has been issued by HP. - PHSS_29710 does not completely install all of the dynamically loadable kernel modules (DLKMs) included in the patch. As a result, systems with ATI Fire GL X1 and Fire GL Z1 video systems will lose Xserver overlay visuals and will not be able to run OpenGL applications. - The following steps may be used to resolve this issue.
Problems Reading HP-UX 11i v2 DVD Media from Earlier HP-UX Versions The HP-UX 11i v2 DVD media contain large volumes of data that may cause DVD devices on HP-UX 11.0 and HP-UX 11i v1 systems to fail while reading the DVD media contents. This particularly affects 11.0 and 11i v1 systems while using Update-UX or other Software Distributor (SD) tools. For example, 11.0 and 11i v1 systems may encounter similar error messages attempting to read HP-UX 11i v2 DVD media: ERROR: File "/dvd/catalog/SOE/SOE.
