Welcome to HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 offers a full range of HP-UX Operating Environments, including systems management and high-availability software products. This DVD booklet provides the following information: • Contents of the HP-UX 11i v2 media kit. • New features and enhancements in this release. See the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 Release Notes for details. • Descriptions of the Operating System and Operating Environments.
Media Kit Contents For new systems, the HP-UX 11i v2 media kit includes the following DVDs and documentation. For the update service, you only receive those components that change from one release to the next. Note The December 2005 HP-UX 11i v2 Operating Environments DVD does not contain the Ignite-UX product. You can install the latest version of IgniteUX from the HP-UX 11i v2 Applications DVD included in the HP-UX 11i v2 media kit.
• HP-UX 11i v2 Instant Information DVD — Contains HPUX manuals, release notes, and white papers. See the DVD booklet for more information. • HP-UX 11i v2 Internet Express DVD— Contains a collection of Open Source Web, Internet, and security services that have been tested and qualified on HP-UX. • HP-UX 11i v2 Software Pack DVD— Contains optional core enhancements for HP-UX 11i v2, such as Node and Host Name Expansion, Portability Package, and Standard Mode Security Extensions.
What’s New in This Release This section provides a quick overview of what is new, has changed, and has been deprecated or obsoleted in the HPUX 11i v2 December 2005 release. Changes to the VERITAS File System in the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 Release Starting with the 4.1 release, only two terms are used in the VxFS context: Base-VXFS and HP OnlineJFS. BaseVXFS offers minimal file system functionality, while HP OnlineJFS enables online file system administration. In the December 2005 release, both Base-VXFS 3.5 and 4.1 are on all OEs. Base-VXFS 3.5 is bundled with HPUXBaseOS and is always-installed, while Base-VXFS 4.1 is selectable. HP OnlineJFS 3.5 (B3929DA) and 4.
New Products to HP-UX 11i v2 Table 1 lists the new products included in the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 release. For a list of the associated bundle tags, refer to the HP-UX 11i v2 Installation and Update Guide. For information on these products, refer to the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 Release Notes. Note The A5158A PCI Tachlite adapter is fully supported with HP-UX 11i v2 on all platforms that support HPUX 11i v2.
Table 1: New Products to HP-UX 11i v2 New Product Description Distributed Systems Administration Utilities Improves manageability of distributed systems and Serviceguard clusters. HP Integrity Virtual Machines Provider Allows HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) to display information about HP systems that support HP Integrity Virtual Machines. Not invoked directly by the user.
Table 1: New Products to HP-UX 11i v2 New Product Description HP-UX WBEM LVM Provider Used by client applications to determine information about the LVM via HP WBEM Services for HP-UX. HP-UX WBEM SCSI Provider Used by client applications to determine information about SCSI HBAs present on the system. Disks and File Systems Web-based tool (fsweb) that provides a GUI to HP-UX system administration tasks.
Table 1: New Products to HP-UX 11i v2 New Product Description HP-UX JDK for the Java JDK/JRE v5.0 New with the December 2005 release of HP-UX 11i v2. VERITAS File System (HP JFS/HP OnlineJFS) Version 4.1 now available with support for large file systems and large files, as well as other features. VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) Version 4.
Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Table 2 lists products that have changed, and have been deprecated or obsoleted in the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 release. Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Updated Product Description Event Monitoring Services Updated to incorporate defect fixes. Will be deprecated post HP-UX 11i v3. Feature Enablement Patch Bundle (FEATURE11i) Provides new patches required for vPars, VERITAS products, Infiniband, and Serial SCSI functionality. GlancePlus Pak Updated to version C.04.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Updated Product Description nPartition Provider Updated to version B.23.01.05.01 to add support for new cell-based HP servers. Partition Manager v2.0 Updated to version B.23.02.01.02 to add support for new cell-based HP servers, improvements under HP SIM and HP SMH, and defect fixes. HP Serviceguard Updated to version A.11.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Updated Product Description HP Systems Insight Manager Updated to version 5.0 with numerous enhancements, including the ability to view more information and perform more tasks; new CLI commands; a First Time Wizard; support for Oracle databases; and other enhancements. HP WBEM Services for HPUX Updated to version A.02.00.08 to incorporate defect fixes. HP-UX Kernel Configuration Web-based tool (kcweb) is a new plug-in on the HP System Management Homepage.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Updated Product Description Ignite-UX Updated to version C.6.5.x with updated documentation, defect fixes, enhancements (including a new, easier-to-use install-time security menu on system tab), and support for VxVM 4.1. No longer supports HP-UX 11i v1.6 (B.11.22). For December 2005, available on the Applications DVD, not the OE DVD. Obsolescence Bundle Upon update, now removes MySQL in addition to other obsolete products.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Updated Product Description Update-UX Updated to version B.11.23.0512.033. No longer supports update from HP-UX 11i v1.6 (B.11.22) to HP-UX 11iv2 December 2005 or later releases. HP CIFS Client Updated to version A.02.01 with a substantially revised and improved code base. HP CIFS Server Updated to 3.0c (version A.02.01.02), which is based on Samba 3.0.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Updated Product Description Mozilla for HP-UX Updated to version 1.7 with enhancements including improved Asian font support, the Japanese Language Pack, and fixes for security vulnerabilities. Netscape Directory Server for HP-UX Updated to version B.06.21.30 with support for four-way multi-master replication, support for fine-grained password policy, new configuration attributes, and other features and defect fixes.
Table 2: Updated Products in HP-UX 11i v2 Updated Product Description HP-UX Secure Shell Updated to version A.04.00.003 with address binding for port forwarding connections, remote binding control, hashing of host names and addresses, and other changes. HP MLIB Updated to version 9.4 with quality enhancements. HP MPI Updated to version 2.1.
HP-UX 11i v2 Operating Environments Operating Environments are tested and integrated application bundles designed to work with the operating system and provide the functionality needed for your system’s purpose. For more information about the contents of the OEs, see the HP-UX 11i v2 Installation and Update Guide, or see the HP-UX 11i v2 Release Notes. Note HP-UX 11i v2 May 2005 was the last release that included the Minimal Technical OE (MTOE). After May 2005, the MTOE will no longer be delivered.
The following list details the currently available HP-UX 11i v2 OEs: • HP-UX 11i v2 Foundation OE (FOE) — Designed for the demands of Web servers, content servers, and front-end servers, this OE includes applications such as HP-UX Web Server Suite, Java, and Mozilla Application Suite. This OE is bundled as HPUX11i-OE.
Known Problems This section contains critical, late-breaking information that was not included in the HP-UX 11i v2 Installation and Update Guide. Before cold-installing or updating to HP-UX 11i v2, make sure you read this entire section and Appendix B in the HP-UX 11i v2 Installation and Update Guide. For information and patches for other known problems, go to the HP IT Resource Center Web site: http://itrc.hp.
Reboot Corrupts the Kernel Registry (Itanium Systems Only) The reboot command used with the -r -n -q options corrupts the kernel registry /stand/current/krs/config.krs after reboot. You may encounter this defect when using the Oracle 10g RAC with the cluster ready service. Any error detected by Oracle leading to the reboot -n may cause this corruption and result in an unusable system.
VMProvider and VMGuestlib Bundles Already Installed with Integrity Virtual Machines Version A.01.00 If you installed the Integrity Virtual Machines Version A.01.00, you have already received the most recent versions of the VMProvider and VMGuestlib bundles. Therefore, you will receive an error from Software Distributor if you attempt to install the earlier versions of those bundles found with HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005. What To Do Do not force the installation.
Installation Error when Older Version of Availability is Installed and Not Currently Running During a cold-install or update to HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005, you may encounter the following error message in the swinstall.log file: * [20254] Running “configure” script for product “Availability”. kill: 1549: The specified process does not exist What To Do You can safely ignore this message.
Partition Manager Issue with HP SIM 5.x Releases of the Partition Manager product prior to HP-UX 11i v2 May 2005 and HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 do not work with HP System Insight Manager 5.x. What To Do You must upgrade to either the HP-UX 11i v2 May 2005 or the HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 version of Partition Manager.
Cannot Update with Servicecontrol Manager Version 2.5 or Earlier Installed If HP Servicecontrol Manager earlier than version 2.5 is installed on your HP-UX 11i v1 operating system, or if HP Servicecontrol Manager 2.5 is configured on your HP-UX 11i v1 operating system, you must remove Servicecontrol Manager before updating your system to HP-UX 11i v2. If you do not remove HP Servicecontrol Manager version 2.5 or earlier from your system, the update process to HP-UX 11i v2 will fail.
Note whether the version number is A.02.05.xx or earlier. If the version number is A.02.05.xx or earlier, then you must remove Servicecontrol Manager from your HP-UX 11i v1 system. Also note if the file /var/opt/mx/data/.inititalization exists. If this file exists on your system, then you must remove Servicecontrol Manager from your HP-UX 11i v1 system before updating to HP-UX 11i v2. Uninstall HP Servicecontrol Manager using the following command: swremove ID where ID is the product or bundle ID.
Update Issues with HP Servicecontrol Manager 3.0 and HP Systems Insight Manager 4.x If you are updating your system from HP-UX 11i v1 to HP-UX 11i v2, and HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) 4.x is installed and you do not want to run HP SIM in the future, you can remove the HP SIM product. To remove HP SIM execute the following command: swremove -x enforce_dependencies=false T2414BA If you are updating your system from HP-UX 11i v1 to HP-UX 11i v2, and HP Servicecontrol Manager 3.
Determine if HP Servicecontrol Manager is installed on your system by typing the following commands: swlist -l bundle B8337BA B8339BA B8338BA swlist -l product ServControlMgr AgentConfig \ SysMgmtServer SysMgmtAgent Uninstall HP Servicecontrol Manager using the following command: swremove ID where ID is the product or bundle ID.
If you chose to remove either HP Servicecontrol Manager or HP Systems Insight Manager, you must execute the following command to remove subdirectories that were used in the product: rm -fr /opt/mx /etc/opt/mx If these subdirectories are not removed, you might encounter database errors when trying to run mxinitconfig -a when installing HP SIM 5.0.
Error When Updating to the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 TCOE If you are updating to the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 TCOE, you may encounter the following error messages in the swinstall.log during the update process: ERROR: [120069] Could not apply the software selection “B3929EA”; it is not available from depot or root “depot:/release/0512.1123/HPUX11i-TCOE.DVD”. ERROR: [120069] Could not apply the software selection “Java15JDK”;it is not available from depot or root “depot:/release/0512.1123/HPUX11i-TCOE.
What To Do The following products are not included on the TCOE for the December 2005 release of HP-UX 11i v2: • HP Online JFS (B3929EA) • Java 1.5 JDK for HP-UX (Java15JDK) • Java 1.5 JDK -AA addon for HP-UX (Java15JDKadd) • Java 1.5 JRE for HP-UX (Java15JRE) • Java 1.5 JRE -AA addon for HP-UX (Java15JREadd) Before updating to the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 TCOE do one of the following: • Install Update-UX from the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 TCOE.
Error When Updating to the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 Operating Environments If you are updating your HP PA-RISC server to the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 Operating Environments, you may encounter the following error messages in the swinstall.log during the update process: ERROR: [120286] Could not apply the software selection “VMGuestLib” because it refers to a bundle or to a product, subproduct or fileset within a bundle but no compatible bundles meeting the specification were found.
What To Do The products, VMGuestLib and VMProvider, can only be installed on HP Integrity Servers. Before you update your HP PA-RISC server, do one of the following: • Install Update-UX from the HP-UX 11i v2 December 2005 OE. Remove the products listed above from the /usr/lib/sw/update-ux.selections file, or • Create an update-ux.selections file that excludes the products listed above.
