Benefits
Ramdisk offers the following benefit:
Can operate at memory speed, which provides very high throughput. Applications
that require high throughput can use this feature.
The swappable Ramdisk volume size can be bigger than physical system memory.
Installing Ramdisk
The system memory can be configured for use as a Ramdisk after installing the required
patches on the system.
This following sub-section provides information about the software requirements,
hardware requirements, and patch requirements for configuring Ramdisk.
Software Requirements
The following software must be installed on the system:
PHKL_36321 and PHCO_34421
HP-UX 11i v2 operating system
Hardware Requirements
The following minimum hardware is required to install the Ramdisk:
Itanium-based and PA-RISC systems (Mid and High-end systems)
Installing the Ramdisk Patches
The patches PHKL_37170 and PHCO_37169 must be installed on the system. These
patches are available for download at:

Creating and Deleting a Ramdisk Instance
You can create a Ramdisk instance after installing the Ramdisk patches.
To create a Ramdisk instance, enter the following command at the HP-UX command
prompt:
$ ramutil -c -v volume_number -s volume_size
Where:
-c Creates a Ramdisk volume
-v Associates a volume number with the Ramdisk
