Performance Analysis Tools for HP-UX 11i on Integrity Servers
6.1 HP OpenView GlancePlus Pak
This product is the combination of two products, each of which is also sold separately. The products are:
• HP OpenView GlancePlus
• HP OpenView Performance Agent (OVPA)
See the paper “Making your HP GlancePlus Pak perform” for information about how you can use
GlancePlus Pak for performance purposes.
The two products are described below.
6.1.1 HP OpenView GlancePlus
GlancePlus is a system-monitoring and diagnostic tool for real-time performance information. It lets you
examine system activities, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, and fine-tune your system. It
looks at CPU, memory, disk I/O, and other performance items, and answers the question “What is my
system doing right now?”
GlancePlus is sometimes called simply Glance.
There are two user interfaces: Glance (character-mode display) and GPM (GUI display). Typically, you
will use Glance to take a quick look at a system and GPM to do more in-depth analysis. GPM gives you
access to more detailed metrics than you can get using Glance.
The output can be saved to a file or printed.

The latest version is 4.5.
When to use
When you want to determine system resource utilization: what is going on in the system overall and what
resources (CPU, disk, network, system resources, and so forth) each process is using. It is also useful for
information about wait states, open files, and process syscalls.
A common scenario is to first use GlancePlus to categorize performance problems. Then, you would use
HP Caliper to drill down further and isolate the problems.

6.1.2 HP OpenView Performance Agent (OVPA)
The HP OpenView Performance Agent logs and collects data over a period of time. It keeps a history of
your system's performance and sends alarms of impending performance problems. The Performance
Agent is installed on each system you plan to monitor.
HP OpenView Performance Agent requires an analysis tool to look at the data gathered. It is coupled with
HP GlancePlus in the product HP OpenView GlancePlus Pak, though you can use it with other analysis
tools.
HP OpenView Performance Agent was formerly known as MeasureWare.
