Next generation single-system management on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23)
HP SIM provides multisystems management capability by providing administrators single sign-on
access to HP SMH on managed servers (stand-alone or partitioned) from a Central Management
Server (CMS).
The following functional areas are available as web-based HP SMH plug-ins:
• Accounts for Users and Groups (ugweb)
• Disks, File Systems, and Logical Volume Management Configuration (fsweb)
• Event Subscription Administration and Event Viewer (evweb, available in March 2006)
• Kernel Configuration (kcweb)
• nPartition Management (parmgr)
• Peripheral Devices (pdweb)
• Security Attributes Configuration (secweb)
The following functional areas of HP SAM are available as X-Windows-based HP SMH plug-ins:
• Printer Management
• Networking and Communications
• Audit Configuration
• Authenticated Commands (PAM)
• Resource Management
• Resource Monitors
• Software Management
• Time
Some of the HP SMH plug-ins have a menu-driven terminal user interface (TUI), a command line
interface (CLI), or an X-Windows-based GUI.
Note:
The Run SAM on Remote Systems functional area will no longer be
available as system administrators can use HP SIM to manage nodes
remotely.
The HP SAM functional areas are being rewritten as web applications and will integrate with HP
SMH, which was shipped in HP-UX 11i v2 release. A significant portion of the rewrites is already
available for HP-UX 11i v2. The rest will be completed in HP-UX 11i v3.
HP SMH goes beyond the traditional HP SAM functional areas with additional capabilities, such as
component property pages and a homepage that reports health information. Component property
pages (available as of the December 2005 release) provide information about system attributes such
as installed software and hardware elements. Subsequent releases will further enhance capabilities
through additional Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) providers (used for component
property pages and the homepage) and plug-ins.
