Features and benefits

The Peripheral Devices tool enables you to:

• View detailed information about cards, devices, and slots, including all available PCI/OLRAD slots

in an easy-to-read format.

• Add or replace a card without shutting down the host system.

• Create special device files dynamically.

• Generate a Critical Resource Analysis report that lists resources lost if a slot is powered down.

These resources are grouped according to their impact on the system.

• Bring cards online without shutting down the host system.

• Light or extinguish the attention LED of various slots that support online (OLRAD) actions.

• Preview commands that support the GUI actions before execution.

The Peripheral Device tool offers the following benefits:

• Performance improvements over previous SAM implementations: Actions that took a minute or more

now take only a few seconds.

• Smart OLRAD technology: The tool takes advantage of the feature that allows only a matching

replacement card to be brought online.

• Fast web interface: The tool is light on the network and can be used in places where an X-Windows

interface is not available or does not provide equivalent speed.
