Next generation single-system management on HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23)

to minimize errors, with broad terminal-type support and CLI previews that enables system
administrators to easily verify system status.
SSL security: The HP SMH uses operating system-based Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and host-based
authentication to protect web-based system management tools. The tool provides a secure,
encrypted connection between the web browser and the host system.
Common HTTP and HTTPS services: The HP SMH uses common HTTP and HTTPS services for new
HP management applications and utilities for reduced complexity and system resource
requirements.
WBEM-based component property pages: The HP SMH uses WBEM-based property pages for
operating system, software, and hardware information.
Cross-HP server strategy: The HP SMH is part of a consistent cross-HP server strategy for single
system management. It offers:
Integrated use and visual layout for single and multisystem management
Consolidated HP-UX management capabilities
Multi-OS support (HP-UX, Microsoft Windows, and Linux system management tools)
Follow the Red: Tight integration of the HP SMH and HP SIM offers several advantages:
Enables users to determine which aspects of their HP-UX system and software might require
corrective action
Enables users to view entities requiring attention and drill down to subsequent levels of detail until
the precise situation and corrective action are determined
Eliminates “tool roulette” by providing a guided path to the tool from which an appropriate
action can be taken
Custom application addition: Custom system management tools and applications can be added in
the HP SMH.
Auto-start and timeout: The HP SMH offers auto-start and timeout features that you can configure by
using the hpsmh(1M) and smhstartconfig(1M) commands. By default, the HP SMH is
installed without Apache running on the system.
Browser support: The HP SMH supports the Mozilla and Internet Explorer web browsers.
Flexible, independent delivery of components and plug-ins: The various HP SMH components and
plug-ins, including Accounts for Users and Groups, Kernel Configuration, Peripheral Devices
Configuration, Disks and File Systems Configuration, and so on, are separate products and are
delivered independently but come together in the HP-UX Operating Environments to offer a
complete solution.
Command preview support for HP SMH plug-ins: HP SMH plug-ins provide the command preview
feature, which enables you to view the commands before the execution of tasks, facilitating training
and usage in scripts.
Localized interfaces and online help: The HP SMH and some of the HP SMH plug-ins are localized.
The online help files for some of the HP SMH plug-ins are also available in nine different languages:
English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional
Chinese.
