WARNING Observe all safety precautions to avoid being injured while accessing systems to add
or replace cards.
CAUTION Observe all safety precautions prior to physically accessing the system to prevent static
discharge from damaging the system.
NOTE Certain “Classes” of hardware are not intended for access by users. At this time this includes
V-Class and Superdome systems. HP recommends that these systems only be opened by a
qualified HP Engineer. Failure to observe this requirement can invalidate any support
agreement or warranty to which the owner might otherwise be entitled.
pdweb Refers to the Peripheral Device Tool (pdweb) web-based method of
performing OL*, and is introduced in “Peripheral Device Tool” on page 18,
and fully covered in Chapter 2, “pdweb - Peripheral Device Tool Web
Interface,” on page 23
Attention Button Refers to the hardware system slot based method of performing OL*, and
is introduced in “Attention Button” on page 19, and details provided in
Chapter 3, “Attention Button - Direct Slot Control,” on page 67. The
availability of this method is dependent on the specific hardware involved,
see your hardware documentation for specifics.
olrad Refers to the command line method of performing OL*, and is introduced
in “olrad Command” on page 19, and presented in Chapter 4, “olrad -
Command Line Interface,” on page 75.
The three methods of performing OL* operations are discussed in separate chapters.
These three tools all can perform similar tasks, but with different techniques. A direct comparison of the
methods can help you decide which method to use in a particular situation and is presented in “Comparing
OL* Methods” on page 84.
It is preferable to complete the operation using the same method, but one can start with one and finish with
another. A table that shows the consequences of mixing methods in “Mixing OL* Methods” on page 88.
With many cards close together, it can be difficult to locate a particular slot. You can turn the Attention LED
to a BLINKing state for easy location of the desired slot. Information for BLINKing the Attention Button is
included with each method.
