Obsolescence
Current and earlier versions of Serviceguard on HP-UX support using a serial line
(RS232) as an alternate heartbeat in some configurations, but future Serviceguard and
HP-UX releases will not: Serviceguard A.11.17 on HP-UX 11i v2 and A.11.16 on HP-UX
11i v1 are the last versions that will support RS232 for heartbeat messaging. Instead, a
minimum configuration will need two network interface cards for the heartbeat in all
cases, using one of the following configurations:
two heartbeats subnets; or
one heartbeat subnet with a standby
To provide the required redundancy for both networking and mass storage connectivity
on servers with fewer than three I/O slots, you may need to use multifunction I/O cards
that contain both networking and mass storage ports.
HP Serviceguard NFS Toolkit
HP Serviceguard Network File Server (NFS) Toolkit (formerly MC/ServiceGuard NFS
Toolkit) uses HP Serviceguard (formerly MC/ServiceGuard) to set up highly available
NFS servers. An NFS server is a host that “exports” its local directories (makes them
available for client hosts to mount using NFS). On the NFS client, these mounted
directories look to users like part of the client's local file system. With HP Serviceguard
NFS, the NFS server package containing the exported file systems can move to a
different node in the cluster in the event of failure.
Summary of Change
HP Serviceguard NFS Toolkit version A.11.23.05 includes a fix for a problem with
rpc.statd failing to restart when a package is restarted.
HP Serviceguard NFS Toolkit documentation has been updated to include
information about support for the Veritas Cluster Filesystem (CFS) and integration
with Serviceguard version A.11.17.
