Chapter 5
109
You configure gWLM and monitor your workloads on the system where the CMS
software is installed. This system must also have HP Systems Insight Manager
installed.
• Agent (T2743AA, default-installed on the OEs and also available from the AR CD)
Install the gWLM agent software on each system where you have workloads you
want gWLM to manage. These systems are known as managed nodes.
On HP-UX managed nodes, you place each workload in an nPartition (npar), a
virtual partition (vpar), a virtual machine (created using HP Integrity Virtual
Machines), a processor set (pset), or an fss group.
gWLM manages your workloads by controlling the resource allocations to the npars,
vpars, virtual machines, psets, or fss groups.
• License to Use, or LTU (T2762AA, available from the AR CD)
You can obtain the CMS and the agent at no additional charge. The A.02.00.00.x
agent works for a period of 120 days. After the 120 days, the agent:
— Cannot be restarted once it is stopped
— Refuses changes to deployed SRD configurations
— Refuses to deploy new SRD configurations
To continue using gWLM agents after a free-use period has ended, you must install a
license on each managed node. This license is available on the AR CD. It is also
available as part of the VSE LTU (T2786AC), which enables you to use gWLM and
all the other components of the VSE suite. The VSE LTU is on the VSE distribution
media which you can obtain through your regular ordering process.
Summary of Change
gWLM A.02.00.00.x provides the following changes and new features:
• gWLM is now part of the HP Virtual Server Environment (VSE) Management
Software suite
• gwlminitconfig has been replaced by vseinitconfig
• gWLM can now manage virtual machines created using the HP Integrity Virtual
Machines software
• gWLM can now take advantage of Temporary Instant Capacity
• All policy types can now be combined in a single shared resource domain (SRD)
Fixes include:
• Better validation of SRD definitions
Impact
gWLM A.02.00.00.x provides integration with other VSE components as well as more
flexibility in managing your systems.
