Additional Update Considerations
The following sections provide additional information to assist you in
deciding whether to update to HP-UX 11i v2.
Requirement for Updating from HP-UX 11i v1.6 (B.11.22)
If you are updating from HP-UX 11i v1.6, you must install the August
2004 version of BUNDLE11i (revision tag, B.11.22.0408.1)
for HP-UX 11i
v1.6 on your system prior to updating to the HP-UX 11i v2 September
2004 or later release. If the August 2004 version of BUNDLE11i is not
installed on your system prior to the update, the update will not
complete successfully. If you have a support contract with HP, you should
have already received this patch bundle. Alternatively, you can acquire
the August 2004 version of BUNDLE11i from the IT Resource Center
web site; it will provide you with all required patches:

Requirement for Updating from Earlier Releases of HP-UX 11i v2
(Itanium-based systems only)
If you are updating from earlier releases of HP-UX 11i v2 (prior to
September 2004) to the HP-UX 11i v2 September 2004 or later release,
you must first install the August 2004 version of BUNDLE11i. If the
August 2004 version of BUNDLE11i is not installed on your system prior
to the update, the update will not complete successfully. If you have a
support contract with HP, you should have already received the August
2004 version of BUNDLE11i. Alternatively, you can acquire the August
2004 version of BUNDLE11i from the IT Resource Center web site; it will
provide you with all required patches:

Update-UX Creates Two Backup Configurations
Starting with the March 2004 release of HP-UX 11i v2, Update-UX
creates two backup kernel configurations from the update process. These
configurations are:
• /stand/backup: Contains the latest updated configuration and any
changes that you have made since rebooting your system.
• /stand/backup_prior_to_update: Contains your configuration
saved prior to updating to the latest release of HP-UX 11i v2.
